Goals are good, right? Let’s face it. It doesn’t matter what your goal is, if you meet it, you’re golden. Thus, I think it’s safe to say, under the philosophy that no goal is stupid, I was allowed one stupid goal. Said goal: make a pumpkin pie from a real pumpkin. Read the rest of this entry »

Part I
I tend to identify places by their meat-and-three makeup. In my hometown of Meridian, Mississippi, Binke’s and Jean’s tie for the best in town. Northport, Alabama, claims City Cafe, a college favorite. So, when I first moved to Birmingham back in July 2007, I was lost, not knowing where to turn for black-eyed peas, butter beans, creamed corn. Whenever I can, I try not to do what everybody else is doing. (Except for blogging..yikes.) Being my own person is very important. I think making one’s own decisions says a lot, and changing one’s ways on the fly is, often, hypocritical. Giving in is not something I like to do. I see it as a weakness. Here’s an example–stupid, yes, but example even so: when everyone else was wearing Crocs, ug boots, and Clarks, I said no, sir. Not me. Read the rest of this entry »
